In memoriam: Lew English, Sr., of Bowser Trains

The co-founder of Bowser Manufacturing Co. is also in the Model Railroading Industry Hall of Fame

Lew English Sr., 93, co-founder of Bowser Manufacturing Company, died Feb 3, 2012.

A message from the company said “Lew was the inspiration for what is now the Bowser Manufacturing Company of Montoursville, Pa. He was one of the pioneers in the model train business.”

In 1961, Lew and his wife, Shirlee, began the business in the basement of their home in Muncy, Pa., after they purchased the name and several steam engine kits from Bill Bowser in Redlands, Calif. Lew is a member of the Model Railroading Industry Hall of Fame.

Bowser Manufacturing will continue under the direction of current CEO Lee K. English.

I enjoyed seeing him every week before I would come home from working in Hughsville in the 80'

When I saw him, he was in his Square Dance outfit. He and his wife liked to to Square Dance and they were a very good looking couple.

He shall be well missed. Our hearts and prayers go out to the family.
