Two locomotive types Jim thought he’d never see produced in N scale meet on his Tehachapi Loop layout. At left is an Electro-Motive Division FP45 (Athearn) and right is an EMD SD40T-2 (InterMountain).

Back about 1980, when I first decided to build a large N scale layout centered on the Tehachapi Loop, it was a foolish undertaking indeed. Few acceptable locomotives were available, and there were none for the time and place I was modeling. I needed SD40s, SD45s, U-boats, tunnel motors, and more.
