Atlas to produce Phase 2 version of EMD GP40-2 in HO scale

The new diesel locomotive model will be available in five road names
Published: June 2, 2009
While a formal announcement isn't scheduled for another month, Atlas Model Railroad Co. representatives at the May New England/Northeast Prototype Modelers meet confirmed to attendees that the company will produce an Atlas Master series HO scale GP40-2 later this year. The model will tentatively be available in five road names: Boston & Maine, Burlington Northern, Cotton Belt, Norfolk Southern, and Southern Pacific. Silver (equipped with an National Model Railroad Association (NMRA)-recommended eight-pin plug for Digital Command Control) and Gold (DCC-sound-equipped) versions will be produced.

The Phase 2 model will include several signature Southern Pacific spotting features, including L-shaped front windshield, round brakewheel, operating cab Gyralight, SP-style low nose headlight with non-operating red signal light and the correct rear-end headlight package. The model also includes a cab roof air conditioner and antenna platform with related piping. Atlas will announce more details regarding the model soon. I agree some Chessie, CSX, and Conrail ones would be great. No # units as well!
