re J.Seckler: use panel/foam adhesive to attach roadbed to foam- pin in place. Use caulk (or same adhesive) to attach track to roadbed. Don't bother with trying to attach the track to the wood frame.

I am planning on using 1 1/2" of styrofoam on top of my plywood base and laying the track on this. The styrofoam is so I can carve out ponds, rivers, etc., but this means I have to use really long nails to lay track. I'm now thinking on gluing down 5 mm paneling on top of the styrofoam as well for nailing into. Has anyone else done this?

I love all of these tips and MR does a great job, but there's one track issue I'd like to see discussed which seems missing. Where are the best locations on the layout to position uncoupler maganets and which type of magnet should I use when planning my layout? Is one type better or preferred over another?
